NADRA to introduce chip computerized NICs to check counterfeiting

PESHAWAR: In its bid to check the growing incidence of counterfeiting, NADRA (National Database Registration Authority) has decided to introduce new chip based computerized security/NICs for Pakistanis, in the coming year of 2011.

The card would be valid for 10 years, and would facilitate Pakistanis in their transfers of forex, immigration procedures, passport issues etc, without having to wait in line for hours.

Separate counters for expatriates would be established at airports to facilitate them, while those submitting the utility bills would also be facilitated.

The software for the newly introduced chip cards has been prepared by Pakistani engineers, themselves, which would usher in a tech revolution.

NADRA is also contemplating introducing insurance policies for poor and needy persons, which after being approved by government would be started with the cooperation of State Life Insurance.

According to this insurance project, initially persons would be insured at the amount of Rs. 500,000/-
