ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has rejected the proposal for providing pension amounting to Rs 5250 to the bank employees.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar remarked “pension amount of Rs 5250 is not appropriate. It should be increased. It is not acceptable to us. We see how much more increase can be made in pension.
A 3-member of SC bench presided over by CJP Mian Saqib Nisar took up for hearing suo motu no8ice of non payment of pension to bank employees.
Counsel for HBL appeared and told the court they have reached the appropriate solution to problem on humanitarian grounds.
CJP remarked “ tell us what solution has been found to the problem of pensioners. Give us your proposals. Tell us Khushal Bibi who was paid pension Rs 570 will become prosperous how much now due to your proposals.
The counsel said pension amounting to Rs 5250 would be provided to Khushal Bibi now.
The court while rejecting HBL proposal for pension amounting to Rs 5250 remarked this pension amount is not appropriate and it should be increased.
CJP remarked “ EOBI pension is increasing and government is making this pension satisfactory. Rs 5250 pension is not acceptable to us. We see how much increase we can make in it.
HBL counsel told the court that 5 percent increase will also be given annually on pension.
Former employees of PTCL also appeared in the court saying PTCL has lost the case on all judicial forums. But it is not prepared to give pension to employees.
The court adjourned the bank employees pension case hearing till next Tuesday.
