ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has granted protective bail to former SSP Malir Rao Anwar in suo motu notice of extra judicial killing of Naqib Ullah Mehsood.
The court has also directed that Rao Anwar be not arrested besides ordering former SSP Malir to appear before it on February 16.
A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (C JP) MIan Saqib Nisar took up the suo motu notice of extra judicial killing of Naqeeb Ullah Mehsood for hearing on Tuesday.
At the inception of the hearing of the case IG Sindh Allah Dino Khawaja appeared in the court and filed his detailed reply with reference to arrest of Rao Anwar.
IG Sindh told the court reports from IB, ISI and FIA have also been filed in the court.
IG Sindh said that IB has said in the reply that it is seeing this case as high profile case. Efforts are underway to trace location of Rao Anwar mobile phone. The IB however has said the location of whats app can not be traced.
The CJP remarked according to all the talks by Sindh police the result is zero. Time is given every time. However now it seems that we will have to catch Rao Anwar.
A letter was written by Rao Anwar to human rights cell of SC which was read out by CJP
The CJP inquired from police officers if the signatures on this letter are signatures of former SSP Malir.
The other police officers who were present in the court along with AD Khawaja told the court after seeing the letter that signatures seem to be of former SSP Malir.
CJP remarked if Rao Anwar seeks protective bail from police, it will be provided to him.
CJP remarked the way it is right of the oppressed to seek justice, the oppressor also enjoys this right. Justice should be given to Rao Anwar. We can not consider any one culprit without evidence.
Through a letter written by him Rao Anwar has requested the SC that he is innocent. A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) be constituted to probe into this matter. This JIT should comprise officers of security agencies and the officers from other province except Sindh be included in this team.
CJP remarked Rao Anwar has requested to include ISI, IB, Military Intelligence in JIT. But MI remains busy in its job and ISI has also no experience of investigations.
The letter written by father of Naqeeb Ullah Mehsood to CJP was also read out in the court.
Father of Naqeeb Ullah Mesood has said in his letter as to why IG Sindh has not arrested Rao Anwar so far. Our security agencies know where Rao Anwar is hiding. Help be sought from public in connection with arrest of Rao Anwar.
The CJP remarked on the letter as per IG Sindh , Rao Anwar could not be traced out despite support of security agencies.
On Rao Anwar request, the CJP ordered for constitution of a new JIT on this matter besides directing former SSP Malir Rao Anwar to appear before SC on February 16
