LAHORE: At least 23 people were killed and several others injured in roof collapse of a four-storey building of a plastic bag factory at Sundar Industrial Estate in Lahore on Wednesday.
 
According to the media reports, 23 bodies of workers killed in the incident have been recovered while 70 injured have been rescued from the rubble. Rescue services have expressed concern that as many as 50 people could be trapped under the rubble.
 
Talking to the media, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Muhammad Usman said the rescue operation is underway. The cause of the roof collapse is not yet known.
 
The Rescue 1122 spokesman told media that nearly two hundred labourers are trapped inside the building. Emergency has been declared in Jinnah Hospital, het Lahore General Hospital and the Sharif Medical Complex to facilitate the injured.
 
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his heart-felt condolence on the death of the factory workers. He ordered inquiry and sought report of the tragic incident.
