ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has rejected new trade policy draft of 2015-2018 and ordered Ministry of Trade to formulate an effective trade policy.
While briefing to Standing Committee on Trade, Secretary Commerce Shahzad Arbab said Saturday that PM has directed the Ministry to take solid measures in new trade policy to increase exports. As per the direction, the Commerce Ministry is formulating a paper which will be sent to PM in next week for approval.
It’s worth mentioning here that the trade policy draft was sent to PM three months ago.
Performance of Commerce Ministry is seemed to be doubtful due to the rejection of its policy draft and people have started raising questions about it.
Despite of 60 foreign visits of Commerce Ministry in two and a half years the export remained $ 23 billion whereas the incumbent government had promised to increase country’s exports to $ 50 billion by 2018.
