ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has issued notice to Attorney General (AG) in a petition filed against usury and sought reply from him. A 3-member bench of apex court presided over by justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed took up the petition for hearing Monday. The court during the course of hearing of the case remarked “ matter of interest falls in the jurisdiction of Federal Shariat Court (FSC) but you have filed petition in SC. The petitioner said SC is entitled to nullify any law against Islam. Almighty Allah has declared Riba haram (unlawful) and Allah and His Messenger have declared war against it. We have owed to IMF and World Bank and evils are on rise in the society due to usury. If the superior judiciary will not take steps on this count then who has to take action against it. The court while issuing notice to AG has sought reply from him besides adjourning the hearing of the case till March.
