ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to allow former President General Pervez Musharraf to proceed abroad for medical treatment.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday evening, Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said that decision has been taken in the light of Supreme Court judgment. He said the Supreme Court too has recognized the authority of the Government to notify or denotify names for inclusion or exclusion from the Exit Control List.
He said Pervez Musharraf had booked a seat for early this morning but he was conveyed that this was not possible without formal permission from the Government. He said on Thursday lawyers of the former President approached the government and sought exclusion of his name from ECL.
Minister strongly rejected criticism for removing the name of former president from the Exit Control List (ECL). He said that government could have removed Musharraf’s name from the ECL after the orders of trial court and then the Sindh High Court. But, he said, the government challenged the orders in the Supreme Court. “Supreme Court’s decision should be acceptable to all’ he added.
