ISLAMABAD: Considerable headway has been made in high level probe into tax evasion of billion of rupees by mobile companies.

The investigation is being conduced by FBR. The mobile companies which are earning trillion of rupees per annum have paid Rs 37.71 billion tax during the last three years. During the last year only Rs 12.73 billion on account of tax were   deposited by them in national kitty.

According to documents available with Online Mobilink deposited a sum of Rs 3.38 billion tax last year under break up of Rs 2.96 billion on account of income tax and Rs 420 million against sales tax. On the other hand company has shown its profit running into billion of rupees.

Telenor has paid Rs 12.03 billion on account of tax last year. Rs 584 million were paid against sales tax and Rs 1.45 billion were deposited on account of income tax in the national kitty.

U-fone has paid overall tax Rs 1.94 billion including Rs 1.50 billion income tax and Rs 449 million sales tax.

Zong Company paid Rs 5.18 billion tax last year. Rs 5.01 billion were paid on account of income tax and Rs 930 million against sales tax.

Warid deposited Rs 209 million in national treasure on account of sales tax only and it did not pay even a single penny on account of income tax. Mobile companies had paid tax Rs 6.83 billion during 2014 as against Rs 18.11 billion in the financial year 2013.
