ISLAMABAD:The bureaucracy of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) has embezzled the funds worth millions of rupees allocated for the financial assistance of quake affectees, it was revealed in the annual audit report of ERRA.
As per annual report, the officials of ERRA have devised a comprehensive plan worth Rs 410 million to clean the city from the debris of devastated buildings caused by earthquake and purchased heavy machinery to remove the debris of distressed buildings and paid about Rs 242 million.
Federal government stated that the amount of over Rs 32 million were embezzled as compare to amount fixed in PC-1. The officials have allegedly embezzled some Rs 8.3 million during the purchase of petrol and diesel to operate this machinery.
The special committee in Muzaffarabad has paid approximately Rs 50 million to contractors to carry the debris of devastated buildings which were declared illegal. The Basic Health Units were demolished before its construction and Rs 6 million have been paid to contractors. In the report, it has been directed to recover the said amount from the contractors.
The alleged corruption worth Rs 7.8 million was committed on the name of construction of Basic Health Units in Union Council Said pur, a union council of district Neelam. The officials have benefitted approximately Rs 90 million to two construction firms namely BKZ and Contract Associate and directions have been issued to in this regard to initiate high level inquiry.
