ISLAMABAD: Provincial Minister for Food and Chairman Cabinet Committee on Flood, Bilal Yasin has said that government is fully alert to meet the threat of possible flood in monsoon season.
He said that instructions have been issued to departments concerned to remain alert while necessary resources have been made available to district administrations for protection from flood.
He was addressing a meeting at Civil Secretariat to review flood arrangements. Chief Secretary Punjab, SNBR Jawad Khan, Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority Jawad Akram, Secretary Irrigation, Chief Meteorologist besides officers concerned were present.
The meeting reviewed the expected situation in monsoon and protective arrangements against flood. DG PDMA Jawad Akram told that demands for necessary items have been received from all districts and tenders will be invited from prequalified firms within next few days for their purchase. He said that tents, boats, plastic mats, mosquito nets, lifejackets, blankets and other essential goods are available in abundance in the warehouses of districts while tenders are being invited for purchase of more items in the light of the demands of districts.
Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin directed the meeting that all departments should maintain mutual coordination for protection from flood and remain on the alert so that any untoward situation could be met. He said that protection of life and property of people is top priority of the government. He said that necessary instructions have also been issued to tehsil and district administrations for drainage of surplus rainwater.
