ISLAMABAD: Opposition members in the National Assembly on Wednesday voiced strong protest over statement Minister for Waterand Power Khawaja Asif against PTI legislator Shireen Mazari.

The minister while seeking attention of the speaker called Mazari a ‘tractor trolley” after she spoke during his speech. The speaker, later, expunged his words from assembly proceedings on the opposition’s demand.

Asif was speaking on the load-shedding issue when Mazari interrupted him. This enraged Asif who asked the speaker keep her silent. Asif sarcastically said that the masculine voice should be made to stop from murmuring and those “who cannot run their domestic affairs well were talking about bringing change in the country”.

The opposition protested against his remarks while the speaker tried to cool down the
tempers.

PTI and PPP lawmakers said that women have been denigrated in the house. They demanded that Asif should tender apology and non parliamentary remarks should be expunged from the proceedings. The speaker expunged the remarks.

Mazari left the house in protest stating male legislators should feel ashamed while giving such remarks against a female legislator. “This is not parliamentary way of talking. Does the minister use such words against women lawmakers of his own party,” she said.

Later, PTI legislators wooed her and brought her back to house.
