ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has remarked that “it seems that the NAB is engaged in playing friendly match with culprits as it provides opportunity to accused escape conviction”.

While taking up a bail plea of former chief engineer of NTDC, who is currently NAB custody, on Monday, the judge further remarked “most of the time the court is told that the accused has committed a heinous crime but the court is not informed about the offence. The NAB arrests the accused but does not file references in most cases.”

Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh remarked “NAB could not file a reference against the accused despite keeping him in detention for 45 days. Neither investigation officers of NAB come nor the record is shown to the court.”

At the inception of hearing of the case, the NAB counsel prayed the court to turn down  the bail plea of the accused.

The court inquired “what is offence of the accused?”.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case for one week to review the case record.
