KARACHI: In an unexpected situation, the police on Friday raided the house of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmaker, Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan, and took him into custody however, hours after his arest, he was released by the police.
In a statement, additional IG Mustaq Maher said Hasan was released under Section 497-2B of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc).
According to media reports, a police team led by SSP Rao Anwar had arrived at Khawaja Izhar’s residence and arrested the MQM leader who is also Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly. Earlier, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police raided the MQM lawmaker’s house in his absence in an attempt to arrest him.
Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan claimed that police searched his house for about 25 minutes. “I don’t know why they raided my house. I was not there when police arrived,” the MQM senior leader told to a private TV channel.
Later after this whole incident Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has suspended Malir SSP Rao Anwar shortly after the police officer arrested Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan. Anwar had arrested the Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly following a raid.
In a statement to media, Sindh CM said Rao Anwar will face punishment if he has done anything wrong arresting the MQM leader.
