RAWALPINDI: Army Chief Gen Raheel has kicked off his farewell visits  a few days before completion of service tenure.

The COAS, who is due to retire later this month, had said on 26th January this year that he will retire on due date setting all speculations to rest about the extension in his tenure. “I don’t believe in extension and will retire on the due date,” the army spokesman quoted him as saying in a statement.

A statement from ISPR said "COAS General Raheel Sharif arrived in Lahore Monday  on his farewell visit where he addressed a large gathering of soldiers of Army and Rangers at Lahore Garrison.

Addressing the troops, Gen Raheel said accomplishment of peace and stability is no ordinary task and the sacrifices and joint national resolve has helped us in offsetting all odds against country.

In the farewell meetings, the COAS will meet President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman at Headquarters of Pakistan Air Force, Admiral Zakaullah at Naval Headquarter and Joint Chief of Staff Committee. The military chief will also visit Quetta, Peshawar, Karachi after the Lahore visit.

It is vital to mention here that rumors about extension of General Raheel Sharif have died after his farewell visits.
