Afghan guard kills official

KARACHI: An Afghan guard shot dead an official on Monday in the lobby of the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Clifton area of Karachi.

Police said the deceased was identified as Muhammad Abdul Zaki, a third secretary at the consulate. Rangers and police personnel rushed to the area after the firing incident. The roads around the consulate were closed for traffic.

Talking to media persons, DIG South Azad Khan said the Afghan security guard who opened fire and killed third secretary of the consulate was arrested. He said the guard was shifted to Clifton police station.

DIG South said the firing was either a result of personal enmity or a spur of the moment incident. Police have also recorded the statements of the diplomats and seized CCTV footage.
