ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to appoint the president of Alfalah Bank, Atif Bajwa the new chief of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The ministry of finance will issue a notification of his appointment today (Thursday).

Sources told “Online” that the government has in principally decided to appoint Atif Bajwa for the slot of governor State Bank of Pakistan.

Atif Bajwa is currently the head of Bank Alfalah in Pakistan.

Sources told that the Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar has a close relation with Atif Bajwa, therefore it has been decided to give this post to Bajwa.

It is pertinent to mention here that the slot of governor SBP was vacant since April 29, 2017 when the former governor Ashraf Wathra had been retired after the three years tenure.

Currently the deputy governor SBP Riaz uz Din Riaz is looking after the charge of governor SBP.
