ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that his family has served the purpose of rule of law in the country by appearing before the JIT formed by the Supreme Court to probe into the Panama Case.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday after appearing before JIT, he said unlike the military dictators, we, the elected representatives respect the law and the constitution.
He said that he has recorded his statement before the JIT with utmost respect. He said the elected prime minister wrote a new chapter the other day in the country's history by appearing before the JIT. He said today is another historic day when for the first time an elected provincial chief minister presented himself before the investigation team.
Shahbaz Sharif said it is not the first time that his family has been subjected to accountability but in eras of PPP and military dictatorship, it was subjected to accountability.
The Punjab Chief Minister said there are no corruption cases against his family and the case before the JIT belongs to their personal business.
Referring to the development projects being executed in present government, Shahbaz Sharif said that two hundred billion rupees have been saved by ensuring transparency in power plants and orange train.
Earlier, when Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif left Punjab House for Islamabad to appear before JIT, his car was driven by Chaudhry Nisar. Meanwhile, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Haneef Abbasi, CADD Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry along with other PML(N) workers reached FJA to show support for Sharif Brothers. A large number of PML (N) workers chanted slogans in favour of Sharif Brothers when Shahbaz reached FJA. Shahbaz waved his hands in response to slogans.
Over 2500 police personnel including Special Branch, FC , Rangers, Commandoes, intelligence agencies were deployed on Security Duty, while all the roads from Faizabad to Islamabad leading to Federal Judicial Academy were sealed, hence, the general public faced severe difficulties as many among them were also fasting. All the roads leading to FJA were open for public after span of half an hour when Shahbaz reached FJA.
