LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) while suspending the appointment notification of Usman Khattak as IG Punjab has sought a written reply from Federal Government, Advocate General Punjab, and secretary establishment.

Chief Justice LHC  Mansoor Ali Shah took up the  case  for hearing on Tuesday.
During the course of hearing, Chief Justice LHC while expressing displeasure over appointment of Usman Khattak as IG Punjab remarked, such persons were to be appointed  whose  term of service  should be three years under law. Apparently Punjab government has committed contempt of court adding joke is being cut with the court. Government has cut a joke with court by appointing IG Punjab for 3 months. The court should be informed as to why federal government and Punjab government did not make consultations before the appointment of IG Punjab”.

During the course of hearing Punjab government presented notification of appointment of Usman Khattak as regular IG Punjab.

The counsel of petitioner Saad Rasul told the court that  only three months and a few days are left more  in the retirement of Usman Khattak.

Chief Justice while expressing resentment remarked  Punjab government is making fun of court orders. Punjab government could not present 3 names recommended for the post of  IG Punjab. Under law IG Punjab should be appointed for three years but Punjab government is not implementing police order 2002.

Court while suspending the appointment notification of Usman Khattak ordered regular IG Punjab be appointed till July 26.

The court also sought written reply from Federal Government, Advocate General Punjab, and secretary establishment on next hearing.

It is vital to mention here that Punjab government has appointed acting IG Captain Retired Usman Khattak as permanent Inspector General Punjab police and establishment division HAS also issued notification of his appointment but now LHC suspended his appointment notification.
