ISLAMABAD: Google has dedicated a doodle in honour of legendary singer Noor Jahan.  

The doodle features a caricature of Noor Jehan wearing a purple attire with a flower perched on her hair. It resembles largely her Dildar Sadqay Lakh Waar Sadqay performance on PTV.

Noor Jehan whose name by birth was Allah Rakhi, Wasai was born on September 21, 1926 in Kasur, city of sufi saint Bulhe Shah. She embarked upon her musical career as a tlented child star at the age of Nine from Calcutta.

Her anthology  of songs is packed with 10000 songs which she had sung in popular language of sub continent  including Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Sindhi.
The famous ghazal of renowned poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz “ mujh se pehle cee mohabbat mere mehboob na mang” opened flood gate of fame for her when she  sang this ghazal.

The popular songs “ awaz de kahan ho, chandni raten, awaz de kahan ha, ae puttar hattan te nahin wikday and aye watan ke sajeela jawanon  sung by her decades before still  echo fresh in the minds.

She was bestowed upon dignified title of Malika-e-Tarannum for her undying songs embedded in the string of her melodious voice.

She died on December 23, 2000 due to cardiac arrest.
