IHC dismisses NAB appeal plea against acquittal of Babar Awan, Justice (Retd) Riaz Kiani in Nandi Pur Power project reference
ISLAMABAD, Jan 12 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected National Accountability Bureau (NAB) appeal plea against Accountability Court (AC) decision in Nandi Pur Power Reference and upheld the decision of acquittal of Babar Awan and Riaz Kiani in this case.
The court has declared decsion on acquittal of Dr Babar Awan and former law secretary Riaz Kiani in order.
The court has also nullified the decision of rejecting Masood Chisti petition in connection with his acquittal and admitted Masood Chishti appeal for his acquittal.
NAB had challenged the AC decision on acquittal of Babar Awan and Riaz Kiani in Nandi Pur power project reference.
The NAB had taken the plea in the appeal plea that NAB had ample evidence for proving the case against Babar Awan and the court acquitted Babar Awan without reviewing the evidence.
NAB also took the plea the decision has been given in haste. NAB prosecution team was not given opportunity to present the evidence.
It was further said in the appeal plea Babar Awan and Justice (Rtd) Riaz Kiani are major accused in Nandi Pur Power reference and the acquittal of both the accused will adversely affect the trial.
AC had while announcing decision on the acquittal pleas of 5 accused including former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and former law minister Babar Awan had acquitted Babar Awan and Justice (Retd) Riaz Kiani.
