N A Sub-Committee on Human Rights Recommendations of government bill on civil rights passed with amendments
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Sub-Committee on Human Rights has approved the recommendations of the government bill on the rights of senior citizens in the federal capital with amendments, including treatment of senior citizens at home and purchase of medicines. 20% concession will be given and shelter homes will be constructed for them. A meeting of the sub-committee chaired by Convener Mohsin Daar was held at Parliament House. Committee members Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto and Fauzia Behram besides members of the Ministry of Human Rights. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary and other officials. Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shirin Mazari reviewed the Federal Capital Elderly Citizen Bill 2019 in the National Assembly and approved the recommendations with amendments. According to the report, senior citizens will have free access to all public places and public parks, preferential facilities in hospitals as well as 20% discount on doctor’s fees, surgery, operations and medicines, financial assistance to senior citizens eligible for financial assistance. Shelter for senior citizens Homes will be built. 20% discount will be given in domestic, transport, rail and ship fares. Income tax payment will be reduced as well as cases of senior citizens will be decided on priority basis as soon as possible. Convener Committee Mohsin Da? He said that the purpose of the bill was to give respect to the senior citizens in the society. He said that there was a need to provide facilities to the senior citizens in government institutions as well as in private institutions, banks and private hospitals on priority basis. Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto, a member of the Convener’s Committee, and the Convener Committee proposed several amendments to the bill.
