Sheikh Rasheed reached the Supreme Court to give the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis
Former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed filed a petition in the Supreme Court to grant voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.
In the petition filed by Sheikh Rasheed, the Federation and the Election Commission have been made parties.
In the petition of the former interior minister, it has been requested that the amendment made in Section 94 of the Election Act be declared unconstitutional.
In the petition, the Supreme Court has been requested to order the government to take steps to give the right to vote to the Overseas Pakistanis.
Sheikh Rasheed has stated in the petition that there are 9 million overseas Pakistanis in the whole world.
In their petition, they say that the legislature has asked to conduct a pilot project for the vote of overseas Pakistanis, while pilot projects are conducted in economic or commercial matters.
He said in the petition that under Article 218, the Election Commission has the responsibility to conduct fair and transparent elections, the government’s amendment in the Election Act is a violation of Article 218, 219 and 222.
In the petition, the Supreme Court has been requested to annul the amendment made in the Election Act.
