Chief Justice IHC Amir Farooq suspended the recommendation of the PAC to remove Justice Retired Javed Iqbal from the chairmanship of Missing Persons Commission

Muhammad Basharat (Online) – The court of Acting Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq suspended the recommendation of the Public Accounts Committee to remove Justice Retired Javed Iqbal from the chairmanship of the Missing Persons Commission. During the hearing last day, Shoaib Shaheen, advocate, appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner and took the stand that Justice Retired Javed Iqbal of the Public Accounts Committee should be removed as the head of the Missing Persons Commission. Decided to write a letter, the committee recommended the removal of Javed Iqbal from the post of Chairman of the Missing Persons Commission.

The court said that the issue of the powers of the Public Accounts Committee has been raised in two other petitions as well. The lawyer said that the minutes of the July 7 meeting of the Public Accounts Committee should be declared illegal. Deputy Attorney General Arshad Kayani said that this matter is now PAC has gone to the Commission of Inquiry, the court asked the Deputy Attorney General whether the PAC has finished the proceedings. In the next hearing, if the proceedings are not going on in the Public Accounts Committee, the petition will be ineffective, the court adjourned the hearing till August 11 with the above steps. He was asked to be removed from the chairmanship of the Commission on Enforced Disappearances.

In the meeting, it was decided to contact the PM to remove the petitioner from the post of the Chairman of the Missing Persons Commission. It is beyond the jurisdiction of the Public Accounts Committee to give a direction not to hold the post of the Chairman of the Missing Persons Commission. Misusing its powers, the petition prayed that the Public Accounts Committee be restrained from taking disciplinary action against the petitioner.
