We want to see EC so much stronger that no one could blow its decisions in the air


Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has remarked we want to see Election Commission so much strong that no one could blow in air its decisions.

Faisal Vawda disqualification case came up for hearing before a 3 members bench of Supreme Court (SC) presided over by the CJP Umar Ata Bandial here Thursday.

Wasim Sajjad counsel for Faisal Vawda argued during the hearing of the case that will EC become court at the saying high court. Islamabad High Court (IHC) has not given decision on the jurisdiction of EC and EC has not determined the facts in right way. Even opportunity was not given to cross examine the personnel of US embassy.

The CJP remarked high court had referred the case to EC to determine the facts. Electoral matters are specialization of EC. We want to make EC robust and powerful. We don’t want that its decision is blown in the air by every one. Islamabad High Court has upheld life time disqualification decision.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked Faisal Vawda had approached for abandoning the citizenship after filing his papers.

The counsel for Faisal Vawda told the court no objection whatsoever was raised on Faisal Vawda when he was senator. Election Commission is not a court which could give declaration regarding life time disqualification.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till October 19.
