SC rejects federation, Punjab appeal pleas against high court decision regarding release of accused in attack on Pervez Musharraf case


Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the appeal pleas of federation and Punjab against the high court decision in connection with release of one Rana Tanvir accused in attack on former president Pervez Musharraf.

The court has ordered to release the accused Rana Tanvir.

The case came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood Monday.

Hashmat Habib counsel for the accused told the court the life imprisonment awarded to Rana Tanvir has been completed and despite completion of his punishment term he is not being released. The period of life imprisonment is 14 years. My client was sent to jail 20 years back. Rana Tanvir was awarded life imprisonment by SC in 2005. He was arrested in Rawalpindi attack case on December 31, 2003.

The court while upholding high court decision on release of the accused has dismissed the appeal pleas of federation and Punjab.
