Arshid Sharif murder case: Journalist has been murdered, it should come to fore who has murdered him: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) while declaring the medical report of slain senior journalist Arshad Sharif unsatisfactory has ordered the government to register case till today (Tuesday) night.

The order was issued by a five members larger bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandial during the hearing of suo moto notice pertaining to Arshid Sharif murder case here Tuesday.
During the hearing of the case foreign secretary Asad Majid DG FIA Mohsin Butt, information secretary Shahira Shahid, DG IB, Interior secretary and president PFUJ also reached the court.

At the inception of hearing the Additional Attorney General (AAG) said when report came, the interior minister was in Faisalabad. Report will be provided to SC after it is seen by interior minister.

The CJP remarked has the interior minister to change the report. We call the interior minister just now. Investigating the matter is job of the government and not of the court. Government of Pakistan has access to Kenya.CJP remarked all have the right of access to the report. The journalist has been murdered. It should come to open who has murdered him.

The CJP while addressing the Attorney General (AG) remarked much time has passed after the return of fact finding committee. Human Rights cells is working on the letter of mother of Arshid Sharif. Why the final report of government commission has not been received in SC so far. What is this happening. Why the report is not coming.

The court ordered to submit the report of Arshid Sharif murder case today.The CJP remarked as to why the report has not been provided to us so far. Have you to make some change in it.Additional Attorney General (AAG) said report will be submitted till tomorrow in the SC.

CJP remarked it should be submitted today so that its hearing could take place tomorrow. We are waiting for the report since 43 days.He report Arshid Sharif medical report is unsatisfactory. We are taking the matter seriously. 5-member bench has been constituted taking into view the gravity of situation. No maltreatment with journalist will be tolerated at any cost. If some one gives wrong news then enact legislation in this regard.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked is it correct that the murder case has neither been registered in Kenya nor in Pakistan.The CJP remarked according to their information no case has been registered.

Foreign secretary said we don’t know about Pakistan but we will inform the court after obtaining information from Kenya.The court sought reply from foreign office regarding investigation and registration of case in Kenya.

The CJP remarked as to why Arshid Sharif murder case has not been registered.Interior secretary said decision to register case will be made after reviewing the fact finding report.
Justice Mazahir Naqvi remarked is it the legal way to register the case.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked how can the investigation be conducted without registration of case.The CJP remarked the journalists are voice of truth. This is matter of human life. Arshid Sharif was prominent journalist. The journalists are source of information. There are several apprehensions among the people about the murder. All the facts about the murder of Arshid Sharif will have to be brought to fore.

Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan remarked will Kenya share its report

He further remarked the role of foreign ministry is more important than all in the matter.The court while ordering the concerned authorities to register the case till tonight directed them to file inquiry report today.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till today (Wednesday).
