EC rejects Sindh govt plea, LB polls will be held on Jan 15
ISLAMABAD: Election Commission (EC) while rejecting Sindh government plea to postpone Local Bodies (LB) polls has given decision to hold LB polls in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15.
An emergency meeting was held under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in Election Commission (EC).
The post Punjab Assembly dissolution situation came under discussion.The meeting was attended by CEC, members, special secretary, DG Law, DG Local government election and others.
The participants of the meeting expressed annoyance over Sindh government steps regarding postponement of January 15 LB polls in Sindh
The meeting also deliberated over taking stern action against Sindh government.It was said in the meeting be it federal government or provincial governments no one wants to hold LB polls.
The entire burden of amendment in Islamabad LB rules was shifted to election commission.In Sindh all the arrangements were complete for holding LB polls . Sindh government took such step two days before LB polls.
It was said by Election commission LB polls in Karachi division , Hyderabad and other districts will take place as per schedule. An order will soon be issued.Interior ministry should ensure deployment of army and Rangers in highly sensitive polling stations.
