ISLAMABAD: Wikipedia services has been blocked in Pakistan for not removing sacrilegious content.
Wikipedia services has been blocked for not removing blasphemous and illegal material despite warning by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
PTA has made confirmation in this regard.
According to PTA before blocking Wikipedia it was degraded under court’s orders for not removing sacrilegious content. Its service was slowed down for 48 hours.
Wikipedia was afforded full opportunity to remove sacrilegious content from its website but neither the content was removed nor the Wikipedia authorities appeared before PTA.
PTA has said the matter of restoration of Wikipedia service will be considered after illegal and sacrilegious content is removed. .
