Non Availability of oxygen: 7 employees including director suspended


PESHAWAR, Dec 07 (Online): 7 staff members including director have been suspended in the light of inquiry report on non availability of oxygen in Khyber Teaching hospital.
These staff members are faculty member, medical engineer, supply engineer, bio-medical engineer and duty employee oxygen.
In the preliminary report by board of governors on the incident, 3 employees of oxygen plant have been held responsible for negligence of duty.

According to report, contract of oxygen supply was awarded to Pakistan Oxygen company which failed in providing the requisite supply. Non trained employees were deployed on duty. Bio medical engineer failed to perform his function. No rescue squad was available in hospital to extend help in emergency situation.

The report said hospital administration failed in imparting training and monitoring the staff members.

As per report information on shortage of oxygen supply in operation theatre was received at 12.40 at night. Technician of oxygen plant told that the tank was fully empty. Hospital director and staff members rushed to the scene. Store locks were broking for gauges. 30 cylinders were issued forthwith for isolation ward.

Board of governors has recommended in the report the standard of Pakistan Oxygen company be checked and trained staffers be appointed. A trained rescue squad will be deployed to meet any emergency situation.
