Govt files application with NEPRA seeking hike in power tariff by Rs 3.23 per unit

ISLAMABAD: Government while making preparations for shifting additional burden of some of Rs 335 billion to the power consumers has filed application in NEPRA seeking increase in the power tariff by Rs 3.23 per unit.

NEPRA will hear government application on March 16.
Government through application has requested for levying surcharge of Rs 3.23 per unit from November 2023, surcharge paisas 43 per unit from July to October 30, surcharge of Rs 3.23 per unit on consumers consuming electricity above 300 units per month from July to October and Rs 3.23 from November 2023.

The additional surcharge will be applicable to domestic, industrial consumers and K-Electric. Federal government had earlier requested for levying additional surcharge of Rs 3.39 per unit. No decision has been taken in this regard.

NEPRA has sought legal opinion from the federal government on charging surcharge to consumers.
