Chief Justice (CJ) Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah


ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (Online): Chief Justice (CJ) Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah has reserved judgment in contempt of court case pertaining to Islamabad zoo.

Wild Life Board (WLB) informed Islamabad High Court (IHC) that it has decided to transfer Himalayan Bears Babloo and Suzie outside the country.

Counsel for WLB told the court both the bears will be transferred to Jordan. These bears will stay in Jordan unless a proper shelter is constructed in Pakistan.

The CJ IHC inquired during the hearing of the case “ tell us who is responsible for the trouble being caused to these bears from July 2019 till todate.

He observed “ what treatment was meted out to animals in the zoo reflects overall behavior of our society. This entire matter reflects the governance in our country. This court has tried to hand over responsibility of these animals to all turn by turn.

CJ further remarked “ you were asked to read out all the orders so that you could come to know how much we had tried. The court decided to transfer the animals outside the country after monitoring the conduct of every one. President and Prime Minister (PM) appreciated this decision of the court and the pictures of Prime Minister (PM) along with animals have been published in today’s newspaper. Wrong impression was given that this court has some interest.

He further observed “ the zoos are detention camps. The animals be not relocated to some other zoo. The zoo is having the status of zoo wherever it is located in the country. The zoo related money be spent on educating the people about animals. Here the teeth of the animals have been extracted. The ministry of climate change is responsible for problems facing the bears in the remaining zoos.

The court reserved the judgment in Islamabad zoo contempt of court case after hearing the arguments of lawyers from both sides.
