LHC directs NAB to complete inquiry in assets case against Chaudhry brothers within 4 weeks


LAHORE, Dec 17 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed NAB to finalize investigation into accumulation of assets beyond their known source of income case against Chaudhry brothers within four weeks.

These directives were issued during the hearing of the petitions filed by Chaudhry brothers against NAB inquiries and chairman NAB powers.

A two members bench of LHC presided over by Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan took up the case for hearing Thursday.

Director General (DG) NAB Lahore Shahzad Salim and other officers appeared in the court.

The court inquired what are the allegations against the petitioners.

Counsel for Chaudhry brothers replied allegations of illegal appointments and accumulation of assets beyond their known sources of income have been leveled against them.
DG NAB said illegal appointments case has been closed against Chaudhry brothers. The assets case of Chaudhry brothers is pending with NAB.

A resident of Gujarat filed complaint against Chaudhry brothers in 2000. The then chairman NAB ordered anti corruption to hold investigation. In 2010 NAB Lahore wrote a letter to chairman NAB about the case against Chaudhry brothers. In 2014 a high level committee directed to complete the case soon.

The court remarked if a person is paying tax since 2017 and his all assets are declared then how you start investigation.

Justice Sadaqat Ali inquired from DG NAB how much assets are held by you.

DG NAB replied he owns the assets worth Rs 40 million.

The court further inquired what was his salary when he was Lieutenant.

DG NAB replied “ I am not having its record at present. I am drawing salary amounting to Rs 500000 from NAB now.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan inquired “ we will ask from you about yourself on some occasion.

Counsel for Chaudhry brothers said NAB had closed the assets case in 2016.

The court while directing NAB to complete investigation into assets case of Chaudhry brothers within four weeks adjourned the hearing of the case.
