ZTB violating SC direction: IHC

ISLAMABAD, December 21 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) while directing federal government to constitute Zarai Tarqiati Bank (ZTB) board till next hearing has extended stay order on demotion of bank employees till January 18.

Case of downgradation of 112 employees of bank camp for hearing before IHC bench led by Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah here Monday.

CJ IHC expressed annoyance over Zarai Tarqiati bank

Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Tayyab Shah told the court that federal cabinet will decide today about constitution of board.

The court remarked federal government has failed to make the board functional since the last three years. Federal government could not constitute the board of the bank

DAG told the court summary was presented before the federal government but it was rejected. New summary has been sent. It will be placed in the cabinet meeting today.

The court remarked ZTB is committing clear violation of Supreme Court (SC) direction. The board has not been allowed to be constituted since the last three years to make policy decisions.

The court inquired making policy as per law is whose job.

Counsel for ZTB told the court “ making policy decisions is function of board.
The court remarked under what law president Zarai Tarqiati bank is taking decisions. This is not correct procedure. This court is seeing since long. President ZTB has committed contempt of court. You will have to satisfy this court. Supreme Court (SC) had ordered to make policy decisions within three months. President of bank file petition in SC that federal government was not constituting board. Giving more arguments by bank in this case is shameful for the bank. Bank should respect SC decision.

The court while directing the government to constitute board till next hearing and extending stay order till January 18 adjourned the hearing of the case.
