How it is possible that housing societies are being established on ETPB land: CJP


ISLAMABAD, Feb 08 (Online): Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmad has remarked how it is possible that housing societies are being established on Evacuee Trust Property Board land.
He further remarked that most of minority properties have not been identified in the report of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB). All the properties of the minorities be identified across the country and report thereof be filed later. No mention is made about Karachi buildings in the report filed so far.5 multi storeys buildings were demolished in Karachi under court orders. ETPB has occupied many lands not only in Lahore but also at Karachi. Tell us if any recovery or marrest has been made on temple matter in KP.

CJP further remarked “we call chairman ETPB and seek report from him. A detailed report containing all the progress made so far be filed in the court.

The CJP remarked construction of temple be started forthwith, its time line be framed and court be informed thereof. Parlab temple at Multan be prepared for Holy festival on March 28. Chairman ETPB ,IG Punjab and Chief Secretary should ensure security in Multan temple.

The CJP gave these remarks while expressing annoyance over incomplete report of ETPB during course of hearing of suo motu case on minorities’ rights and Kirk temple incident Monday.

A 3-memer bench of SC presided over by the CJP took up the case for hearing.

Ikram Chaudhry counsel for ETPB told the court no recovery has been made so far in the matter of temple. Rs 34.1million have been approved for reconstruction of temple.

Chairman one man commission Shoaib Suddle told the court authorities are not cooperating with the Minorities Rights Commission (MRC). One man commission was aimed at colleting record from all the authorities and filing it in the court. All the institutions including ETPB do not even give reply.

Chairman Hindu Council and MNA Ramesh Kumar told the court chief minister KP has said that Kirk area is sensitive area. Hindu minority should start the work on construction of temple. The KP government will return the expenses to be incurred on reconstruction of the temple.

Additional Accountant General (AAG) KP said tendering is must for reconstruction of the temple as per law.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked law is amended on the will of some one. How can the property of trust be utilized for personal purpose. Commission has to make no decision. File the information. The court will decide. Court had ordered that recovery of amount be made from those who had set ablaze the temple so that they could get a lesson from it.
The court summoned chairman ETPB on next hearing and called reply from ministry of education about violation of article 22 in uniform education syllabus.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till next Monday.
