Ghotki, June 07 (Online): A collision between two trains have claimed 36 lives near Ghotki while dozens of passengers have been injured. ..
As per media reports , Sir Syed Express collided with the Millat Express between Raiti and Obaro Railway stations.
Several bogies of the Sargodha-bound Millat Express derailed near the Reti railway station early Monday.
The train was hit by Sir Syed Express that was en route to Karachi from Rawalpindi. Most of the passengers were asleep at the time of the collision, eyewitnesses said.
The Police sources said four boggies of Millat Express were completely destroyed in the accident and the death toll is feared to rise.
Most of the victims of the incident were on board in Millat Express.
The local administration said that 6 to 8 boggies are still entangled to each other and several passengers are also entrapped therein.
The railway authorities and rescue teams reached the scene after more than one and a half hours. The locals rushed to the site and started pulling out passengers trapped inside the trains on self help basis. Those who have received minor injuries are being shifted to local hospitals. Preparations are underway to shift seriously injured passengers to Sukkar and Rahim Yar Khan. .
Both tracks have been closed after the accidents.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said he was shocked by the horrific train accident in Ghotki. He said he had asked Railway Minister Azam Swati to reach the site and ensure medical assistance to the injured and support for the families of the deceased.
“Ordering comprehensive investigation into railway safety fault lines,” PM Khan said on Twitter.
As per media reports according to the ISPR, Army and Rangers troops have reached incident site and carrying out relief and rescue operation.
Military doctors and paramedics along with ambulances also reached at incident site.
President Dr. Arif Alvi has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the train accident.
Condoling with the bereaved families, the President prayed for the departed souls.
Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati has taken notice of the passenger trains’ accident and ordered an inquiry into it.
A spokesperson of Ministry of Railways said the preliminary investigation will be completed within twenty-four hours.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain in a tweet said Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered investigation into the Rail incident as reasons of accident should be thoroughly reviewed.
