NPC, RIUJ strongly condemn involving Mohsin Jamil Beg senior journalist in money laundering case, harassing him by FIA

ISLAMABAD, August 23 (ONLINE): National Press Club (NPC) and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) have condemned in strong terms involving senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of daily Jinnah and Online International News Network (INN) Mohsin Jamil Beg in money laundering case and harassing him by FIA.

They have called for immediate withdrawal of notice and stopping harassing him forthwith otherwise strong protest will be voiced at all forums including parliament.

A statement issued by NPC Monday said “we strongly denounce the involving Mohsin Jamil Beg, senior journalist and Editor in Chief of daily Jinnah and Online International News Net work in money laundering case and harassing him by FIA.

Summoning the senior journalist Mohsin Jamil Beg by FIA through notice is tantamount to slap restrictions on the freedom of expression. Attempts are being made to involve him forcibly in money laundering case while his name is not mentioned in FIR.

They made it clear government has already hurled threats for arresting Mohsin Beg and now harassing him through FIA is extension to these threats. This way attempts are being made to gag the voice of journalists.

They warned that NPC will not sit mute over this matter. Government should take notice of it and stop issuing notices to several senior journalists including Mohsin Beg otherwise country wide protest will be staged besides pursuing legal way.

On the other hand RIUJ in its statement has strongly denounced involving senior journalist Mohsin Beg in money laundering case and harassing him by FIA.
RIUJ president Amir Sajjad Syed , secretary general Tariq Ali Virk and members of executive council strongly condemned the summoning of Mohsin Beg through a notice by FIA saying bid is being made to involve him in money laundering case forcibly while his name is not recorded in FIR.

They held that government has already threatened to arrest Mohsin Jamil Beg because he criticizes government. Now he is being harassed through FIA. RIUJ will not sit mute over this matter. Government should take notice of it and withdraw the notice against Mohsin Jamil Beg otherwise strong protest will be staged. Earlier senior journalists of Lahore Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat were arrested and cases were registered against them. Now a notice has been served to Mohsin Jamil Beg by FIA. RIUJ wants to make it clear that the harassment of the journalists should be stopped and the notice issued to Mohsin Jamil Beg be withdrawn immediately otherwise the strong protest will be voiced on every forum including parliament.
