IHC issues contempt of court notice to former CJ GB Rana Shamim others


ISLAMABAD, Nov 15 (Online): Chief Justice (CJ) Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Athar Minallah has issued contempt of court notices to former Chief Justice Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Rana Shamim and others on disclosures of former judge about appeal pleas of former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
IHC took notice of disclosures made about review petitions filed by Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz regarding NAB references decisions and the matter has been fixed for immediate hearing.

CJ IHC during the hearing of the case summoned Islamabad High Court Journalist Association (IHCJA) in the court room.

The CJ IHC inquired from Saqib Sher , president IHCJA this court has always respected freedom of expression and it believes on freedom of expression. I am proud of every judge of this court. If finger is raised this way in neutral decisions of this court then it is not good.

He further observed this court expects from you that people trust is restored on the institutions. There should be no such type of news on the cases which are under hearing. If some one makes suspicious of independence of this court then it will not be tolerated.

The court summoned all the respondents today (Tuesday).

The court also directed Attorney General (AG) Khalid Javed Khan to appear before it in person.

According to court’s sources the IHC has started contempt of court proceedings against the journalist Ansar Abbasi after the name of IHC judge has been mentioned.

Contempt of court notice has been issued to former judge Rana Shamim.
