Zardari biggest hurdle in immediate elections: Qureshi

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday said former president and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is the biggest hurdle in the way of early and immediate elections.

In an interview with foreign news agency, the former foreign minister said early elections can be held in late September or early October, later this year. He said Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also showed its consent on holding election within this timeline.

However, the ex-foreign minister said, former president Asif Ali Zardari was opposing possibility of early elections and hence he was the ‘biggest hurdle’.
Qureshi said Zardari wanted PML-N to stay in power and make unpopular political decisions, while his (Zardari’s) own party PPP can share government with PML-N without any political setback.

Qureshi said, however Zardari’s party will only be limited to interior Sindh in coming polls.
