Mazdoor Kisaan Party protests against hike in petroleum prices
The Pakistan Mazdoor Kisaan Party (PMKP) on Thursday staged protests across the Lahore city to protest against unprecedented and unbearable hike in prices of petroleum products.
Lahore’s laborers, farmers and working class participated in massive numbers, Online has learnt, as the main protest was staged at Dubai Chowk of Iqbal town’s area.
Protestors were carrying placards and banners and chanted slogans against the government.
They demanded government to abruptly take back its decision to hike petroleum prices.
On Wednesday, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail announced an increase in the prices of petroleum products by another Rs24 in an attempt to trim the fiscal deficit and secure critical support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Cumulatively, the government has raised petrol prices by Rs84 since May 26, effectively ending the subsidy that the PTI government put in place in February.
