Coronavirus effect: With boosters taken, THESE people should still be careful about COVID

COVID vaccination and booster dose programs are being widely implemented across all countries. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 196.94 Cr (1,96,94,40,932) as per provisional reports till June 24. Apart from this, a total of 3,62,20,781 children between the age group of 12-14 years have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 4,36,17,583 individuals have been given precaution dose.

A total of 15,940 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.
This pretty much explains why we need to be still careful about the virus and why is it too soon to drop our guards.

A particular section of people in the society are more vulnerable and susceptible to a viral attack than others and not just this, the COVID can leave a long lasting impact on these people as well. Hence it is very important to recognise these people and make sure they stay as far as possible from every source of infection.

Older adults are more likely to suffer the severity of the infection than others. Even when the pandemic was unknown to anyone and health agencies were hurriedly imposing lockdowns to control its spread, the safety of older citizens was on priority.

With severity one means, these people may require hospitalization and intensive care during the infection. “Getting very sick means that older adults with COVID-19 might need hospitalization, intensive care, or a ventilator to help them breathe, or they might even die.

The risk increases for people in their 50s and increases in 60s, 70s, and 80s.

People 85 and older are the most likely to get very sick,” says the US CDC.

Several governments have given older adults first priority when the vaccination program started. In India, the booster shot program was first rolled out for senior citizens.

The number of COVID cases in kids was not in that number as it was for adults, while many say that the strong immunity of kids protected them, many others say that the lockdown measures helped save the kids from the brunt of the virus.

Though the incidence of COVID in kids has not been reported much, the fewer cases which were reported cemented the fear of parents with the assumption that it may wreak havoc on kids.

When COVID containment measures were implemented in the country, schools were one of the first public places that were shut down.

This is one of the most evident groups that is vulnerable to COVID. Many COVID cases have been reported where the patient’s condition had worsened due to a COVID attack. In many cases people who had prior medical history succumbed to it following the viral attack.

“A person’s risk of severe illness from COVID-19 increases as the number of underlying medical conditions they have increases,” the US CDC says.
